One Change to Improve Your Life

How much do you know about your subconscious mind? Or, let me rephrase it: do you know what your (our) subconscious mind is?

I used to think that our subconscious is this black box formed in our very early years (even from before birth), which we can only begin to try to understand. I now understand that it is something which we can easily see, experience, and yes, change.

How can I change my subconscious mind?

Let me explain, simply.

1. The subconscious is mostly built on memories.

2. Memories are tied to emotions — the stronger the emotion, the stronger the memory. Also, memories trigger emotions. That`s why you still feel angry, sad, hurt or happy when you remember something that someone did to (or for) you.

Now, on a physical level, emotions are simply the product of chemicals released by your body, which is one whole chemical system. Organizational psychologist Benjamin Hardy explains this in his article “This Morning Routine Will Make You Unstoppable.” From this observation he rightly concludes that:

“Your physical body quite literally is your subconscious mind.”

My subconscious mind, my memories, my emotions, my body are so inter-linked, they could be considered as one thing. I might have thought that it is hard to control my subconscious mind. Controlling my body, though? That`s not so hard, is it?

This changed everything for me.

That was a big “Eureka!” moment for me. I will probably feel its effect for the rest of my life. That is because it put me back in control. If this is true, my subconscious is something which I can easily change. At least, it is much easier than what I previously believed.

You can form (or change) your subconscious by being more conscious of the behavior, the emotions and, therefore, the memories you build for yourself.

This is one reason why it is very important to be aware of your behavior. Be aware of the small actions you do every day, unconsciously. That first thing you do when you wake up. Your eating habits. The way you treat your body. How you distract yourself. How you treat others. The thoughts you choose to banish and the thoughts you choose to entertain.

Just one example here. If the first thing you do when you wake up is grab your smartphone and check in to your social media feed, what message would you be sending to your subconscious mind?

If, on the other hand, you do something like praying, meditating, journaling or exercising first thing in the morning you start the day positively. You start the day doing something you choose to do, something that is important to you. Your subconscious will know that you mean business. The subconscious will know what is important for you.

These “small” things are actually big. They are huge, in fact, because the ripple effect they create in you can lead to big changes, to great things.

So, come on, be brave. Go create that change you want to see in yourself. Go create that change you want to see in the World.

You can do this by changing one small thing in your life. By changing one small habit. Start from there, and see what happens. You will be amazed.
